Hello, I’m Neva, and I recently made Ottawa my home after relocating from Buffalo, NY in 2022. I’m a Canadian Certified Counsellor and am currently pursuing my registration as a psychotherapist in Ontario, under the clinical supervision of a qualified Registered Psychotherapist.
With a rich background as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and 35 years of experience as a college professor in New York State, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my practice. Whether in education or counselling, my approach centers on drawing on each person’s strengths as we collaboratively address their concerns.
In my work, you can expect a blend of listening, humor, presence, and tender guidance. Together with my clients, we build a foundation of safety. I employ various somatic approaches to help clients connect with their sense of wholeness and worthiness. Sessions may encompass talking, movement, awareness exercises, and breathwork, providing a holistic space for healing, growth, and increased resilience.
My extensive experience covers a spectrum of challenges, including relationship issues, sexual and physical abuse, adoption concerns, climate change anxiety, spiritual dilemmas, developmental trauma, chronic pain and illness, aging, and death. I work with clients ranging from their twenties to nineties, and I find joy in navigating the challenges of progressing through adulthood, middle age, and old age. This includes everything from establishing or re-establishing committed relationships, navigating divorce, handling career changes or loss, coping with the empty nest, resolving past trauma, dealing with declining physical health, and facing loss and death.
My goal is to bring counselling skills and presence to enhance the meaning of life at each stage, supporting my clients’ emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual needs. Let’s embark on this journey together and find meaning and fulfillment at every step.
